Thinking about college for your child but not sure where to start? This September, our local library is making it easier for high school students to explore options for their future.

The Iberia Parish Public Library will be hosting a College Talk Series at the Main Branch in New Iberia beginning on September 2, 2025 with several sessions planned throughout the entire month with different Louisiana colleges. These sessions are free to attend for high school students and their families who are interested in learning more about the next steps in their educational future.

Because parenting doesn’t stop at kindergarten—neither do we.

Several Louisiana colleges will have representatives visiting the New Iberia Main Branch to offer informative sessions giving teens (and their parents) the chance to learn more about admissions, scholarships, campus life, and how to take that next big step. It’s the perfect opportunity to ask questions, gather resources, and discover what’s possible without leaving New Iberia.

I attended one of the sessions last year with my high school seniors as we discussed and made plans for my children's next steps. Even if your child doesn't think they are ready for college, or if they are simply unsure what they need to do to attend college, these events offer an opportunity for them to explore available options. It gives high school juniors or seniors an open opportunity to gather the information they need to make a final decision.

This year there are several more dates and more colleges scheduled for the series. The schedule for the 2025 College Talk Series in New Iberia will be as follows:

  • Nicholls State University, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
  • LSU-Eunice, Thursday, September 11, 2025, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
  • McNeese State University, Tuesday, September 16, 2025, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
  • Northwestern State University, Tuesday, September 23, 2025,6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
  • South Louisiana Community College, Thursday, September 25, 2025, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
  • UL-Lafayette, Monday, September 29, 2025, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

These sessions make a great first step to teaching your high schoolers a lesson on independence, asking important questions, and keeping them active in planning their future.

The events are free to attend and open to the public. All events will take place at the Main Branch of the Iberia Parish Public Library with no prior registration required. Families can attend all, one or some of the events to learn more about the college process.
