Publishers Note: Macaroni KID New Iberia Recommends 11/11/21

5 Things in and Around New Iberia This Weekend

By by Tracie Ysaguire, Publisher for Macaroni KID New Iberia November 12, 2021

I am so excited as I type the recommendations this week! What to know why? Because the LHSAA Girls Volleyball State Play-Offs start today in the Cajundome!

This will be my first time attending the state playoffs. Normally, the playoffs take place at the Ponchartrain Center in Kenner, La, but due to setbacks and damage from Hurricane Ida, the playoffs were moved right in our own backyard of Acadiana.

Volleyball has been a part of my life since I was young. It is where I made friends, stayed active, learned how to push myself, and most importantly learned how to be part of a team. I remember playing in my high school days like it was yesterday! The things I learned on and off the court during that time I believe helped mold and develop me not only as player but as a person. The game of volleyball depends on the entire team. And while you can have a bunch of superstar hitters, back row defenders and awesome servers all those amazing skills don't mean much if you are not able to play as a team.

I have been an avid volleyball lover, player, and coach for both recreational teams and middle school teams. I enjoyed every minute of coaching my own daughters as well as other girls and watching them develop the same passion I have for the sport. As a proud volleyball mom, watching my three daughters play always made my heart fill with joy.

After years of recreational and club ball, my youngest two have been playing with Highland Baptist Christian School for the last two years. This year they played on the Freshman and JV teams. We were all so excited to see our Varsity team make the State Playoffs this year and will be in the Cajundome cheering them on tonight!

What's even better is that tonight's game is bringing back some nostalgia for me. Why? Well, Highland Baptist will be playing Metairie Park Country Day tonight, and I played ball with their head coach and assistant coach as a girl growing up in New Orleans. It certainly all does come full circle doesn't it?

We have some other teams from the Macaroni Kid New Iberia area that made the playoffs as well including, Catholic High School, Morgan City High School, and Central Catholic. I want to give a huge shout out these teams and all teams, coaches, parents, and fans for supporting these girls this volleyball season.

Now on to the top 5 recommendations for you and your family to enjoy this week!
