Well, the holiday season is officially upon us as we wait for holiday that officially kicks it off for us next week, Thanksgiving Day.
This has always been one of my favorite holidays, for I am a major foodie. I look forward to not only the gathering to spend time with friends and family but seriously, I am looking forward to what is going to be on that table every year! My kids have their favorites too, so when they ask me to make some of their favorites like Green Bean Artichoke Casserole or Corn Bread Casserole outside of the holiday, I always feel like we are cheating on the Thanksgiving holiday.
We all know the holidays can be stressful for many of us. As a mom I've spent many holidays in the kitchen prepping for days, or having to throw together a last minute meal with a very limited budget, and enduring the packing nightmare that seems to happen for a visit our of town. (We all know mom doesn't just pack for mom!) Each one of these comes with their own set of blessings and pressures, so I always try to find simple ways to destress and find something I am grateful for in the mix of the holiday madness.
When I am cooking a huge meal, music is always playing in the background as I prepare the food, which usually ends up turning into a family dance contest. If we are packing or traveling for a holiday gathering, I try to focus on the fact that I am actually out of the kitchen for a few days and enjoy the break and the long car ride. I love taking in scenic views, so if it takes a little longer to get there, then so be it.
So as you head into this holiday season, be sure to find some of things that work for you to help get rid of the unwanted holiday stress. Whether that is music, a few minutes of quiet time before everyone else gets up, or just an extra cookie in the closet, do what works for you! I'd love to some of your tips and tricks that help you manage holiday stress.
