Whether we are in flip-flops and shorts or buttoned up from head to toe, we always celebrate the holidays in New Iberia with local parades, Santa visits and of course plenty of decorations. I love driving down Main Street in the evening just as it begins to get dark to watch the lights come to life! We always seem to take the long way home over the holiday season to get in some extra time to enjoy the festive lights and decorations.
Thanks to Mark Boyance and The New Iberia Decorated Community, the New Iberia Best Christmas Decorations Contest is back this holiday season! There will be several different yard categories this year with each category having one prize for the winners thanks to our local community businesses and sponsors. Here are the categories for this year's contest:
- Most Original
- Best Animated Yard
- The "Griswold" Award
- Best Use of Inflatables
- Best Use of Wooden Yard Decorations
- Best Balcony Decorations (House or Apartment)
- Best Business Decorations

There will also be TWO additional contest categories to enter this year! They are:
- Best Christmas Tree
- Best Indoor Decorations
The judging committee will pick the top 5 Christmas Trees/Indoor Decorations from the submitted photos and judge them in person. Be sure to take good photos and submit as many as you like. Your photos can be emailed to markboyance@gmail.com or sent via text 337-256-1938. The pictures will be posted to the New Iberia Decorated Community with the name of the owner (no addresses for indoor trees or decorations will be posted.)
The judging of the top 5 tree/indoor decorations photos will be held on Tuesday December 12, 2023. Then on Saturday December 16, 2023 the judges will judge all 5 of the top Christmas Trees/Indoor Decorations in person to pick a winner.
2023 Contest Rules
1. Take photos of the outside of your home/yard and email them to markboyance@gmail.com. You can also message them to their Facebook page, but it will shrink the size of the photo. For the yard decorations, the photos will be posted with the address for the contest without your name. You can also upload your own photos to the community page.
2. Only zip codes 70560 and 70563 can enter the different categories of the New Iberia Decorated contest.
3. All entries must be submitted or posted by 11:59pm on December 12, 2023.
4. All selected must be ready for judges to view by 6:00 pm on December 15, 2023. Winner's will be announced by December 20, 2023.
5. Judging will be based on creativity, design, arrangement, and overall appearance.
