It's our first full weekend of some Mardi Gras fun around Acadiana folks! Beware as you head out for the weekend that there may be some street closures and traffic. You can check out our Mardi Gras Guide or the events calendar to make sure you can get around any parade traffic if you are not heading out to the festivities!
My favorite article this week is about The Great Backyard Bird Count! As a homeschooling family, we have done this a few times in past years and my kids enjoyed it. Not only were they learning, but it gave them a chance to get connected to nature, get outside and enjoy the sun, and get some one on one time. Even if you are not a homeschooling family, be sure to check out that article! It's really a fun activity for you and the kids of any age!
Also, if you are dog loving family and looking for something fun to do with the kids, create this treat for them to celebrate National Love Your Pet Day on February 20th or National Dog Biscuit Day on February 23rd.
And lastly, please make sure to celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day this week by paying a random act of kindness forward to someone else!

1. Rocks in the Park - Scavenger Hunt

Go on a scavenger hunt on Friday 2/18 and/or Saturday 2/19 in Palmetto Island State Park to find the Krewe of Palmetto hidden rocks! If you find the one with a star, you win a prize! Regular admission fees and park hours apply.

3. Courir de Mardi Gras at Vermilionville

A true Mardi Gras event for the whole family! Head out to Vermilionville to celebrate a traditional Mardi Gras run and participate in this interactive event with the Basile Mardi Gras Association. Live music, food for purchase, demonstrations and exhibits will run throughout the day at the museum.
4. A Prelude to Spring Concert
February 20, 2022, New Iberia
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Enjoy the sounds that welcome in springtime in New Iberia! St. Peter's Catholic Church will be hosting a free concert by the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra. Come enjoy the music that welcomes spring to New Iberia!
5. Loreauville Branch - Popcorn and PJs

6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Plan for a free movie night of fun with the kids. Join the Iberia Parish Library at their Loreauville Branch for a screening of your favorite movies! Tonight we will be feature the movie Brave rated PG. This is a children's program open to ages 6 and older.
