March is definitely one of my favorite months as it signals the beginning of spring and festival season for us in New Iberia. The daylight hours are getting longer and we have plenty of wonderful days where you can smell the springtime atmosphere all around you.
But the change of seasons isn't all that's happening in March. Here are 10 other holidays, events, and observances your family can celebrate or learn more about in March.

National Day of Unplugging
March 1 to 2
National Day of Unplugging is an awareness campaign promoting a 24-hour respite from technology. It is annually observed the first weekend in March and let's be honest we all need a day of being unplugged. International Women's Day
March 8
International Women's Day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while also marking a call to action for gender parity. Mark the day by celebrating women's achievements, raising awareness about women's equality, or fundraising for women-focused charities. March is also Women's History Month.

National Working Moms Day

First Day of Spring

Oh, happy day, Spring is here! Many view this as the true beginning of the new year as we have fresh blooms and animals everywhere coming out of hibernation. World Down Syndrome Day
March 21
World Down Syndrome Day is observed the 21st day of the 3rd month each year to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome causing Down syndrome. On this day, people with Down syndrome, along with their families and friends, participate in activities and events to raise public awareness and advocate for people with Down syndrome. You can start at home by helping your child learn to embrace differences in all.
You can get the family involved and volunteer at one of our Acadiana organizations like United Way of Acadiana, Families Helping Families, Goodwill of Acadiana and ARC of Acadiana to give back in the New Iberia area and surrounding Acadiana communities. They are always looking for a few good volunteers for local programs.

National Single Parent's Day
March 21
Support a single parent today! How? Let them know you see how many self-sacrifices they make for their kids. Bring them a meal. Offer childcare. Listen, so they know they're not alone. International Transgender Day of Visibility

Trans Day of Visibility is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of transgender and gender nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice. This group hosts the Inclusive Prom for all Acadiana students every March. The 2024 Inclusive Prom is taking place on March 8, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm in Lafayette. The event is free for all students in Acadiana but you must reserve your spot. Whether your school doesn't offer a prom, isn't disability friendly, or you just aren't comfortable being yourself at your own prom, all students are welcomed to express their identity without judgement.

Easter is an important religious holiday for Christians everywhere. Easter also provides a burst of fun for families filled with egg decorating, playful hunts, and sweet treats. It's a perfect day to celebrate Spring with laughter and joy. Hop to it!
