Celebrated worldwide on April 22, Earth Day is a day all about protecting our environment by thinking globally while acting locally. Finding ways to create a sustainable future for all families in their communities is at the heart of this holiday. In Louisiana, we "love the boot" and all that it means to be a Louisianan! From the best festivals in the world, to the beautiful trails and waterways, we have to come together as one to protect the beauty of our state.

Love the Boot, a non-profit organization in Louisiana, celebrates Earth Day and Louisiana all week from April 5, 2025 through April 13, 2025.
During this week, there will be events planned around the state in honor of Earth Day allowing residents, families, and children to come together to volunteer by participating in local events. It's a great way to not only give back to Mother Earth but to also support your local community, parks, and playgrounds.
We have several events happening throughout Iberia Parish, St. Martin Parish, St. Mary Parish, and Vermilion Parish and we want to be sure to highlight them below. To get more information, or to sign up to be a part of one of these events, go to Love the Book Week and type in your zip code.
These events can also be a great opportunity for parents to be an example for their children while creating memories with them. Also, teenagers may be able to earn service hours as we come closer to the end of the school year. It's a win/win for both families and our communities!

If anything, the most important thing you can do to celebrate Earth Day is to simply say thank you to Mother Earth!
You can lead the charge to volunteer at one of the events, organize a clean up at your favorite park or playground, or just enjoy a day in the park with your kids! Here are a few of the local parks in our area where you can celebrate Earth Day:
New Iberia City Park, New Iberia
Cypremort Point, Franklin
Lawrence Park, Morgan City
Palmetto State Park, Abbeville
Parc des Ponts Breaux, Breaux Bridge
Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, St. Martinville
We tend to take Mother Earth for granted as we go about our daily lives. But this week can offer an opportunity to show appreciation for all the beauty that surrounds us and teach an important lesson to the next generation.
Looking to get more involved than just a day at the park? We've got a quick list of ideas for you to celebrate Earth Day this year:
Pick up the trash in your neighborhood
Start a recycling bin at your home
Clean up your garden and plant something new
Create a birdhouse or birdbath for your yard
Organize a beach or bayou clean up
