Macaroni KID New Iberia Recommends 5/26/22

Our Top Picks Happening In and Around New Iberia This Week

By by Tracie Ysaguire, Publisher for Macaroni KID New Iberia May 27, 2022

Does anyone else have that old Alice Cooper song playing in your head on repeat, "Schools out for summer!"

Most of us love the idea of relaxation and family vacations that summer brings, however, summertime also has many parents frantically searching for things to do with their children over the summer break whether they work outside the home or not. I have been one of those frantic parents, looking for things to do over summer break with children of varying ages that would not break the bank, so I totally get it!

This is one reason I pursued the opportunity to become a Publisher with Macaroni KID! We will be working hard behind the scenes to keep our calendar updated, connecting with local businesses and events to keep you and your children informed and entertained this summer!

We are working on our VBS guide and summer camp options as I type, so be on the lookout for that! I know that our local churches and organizations in our community put a lot of care and planning into these summer activities for our children. Even if you think your kids may be too old to attend, be sure to ask about your older kids volunteering to help! My kids loved attending VBS and weekly summer camps and as they aged out of some of the programs they loved so much, they went back and volunteered to help run them. It was a win/win for us!

Also, a reminder that registration for the summer reading programs is in full swing! Make sure to check the calendar for the kick-off parties happening around town at our local libraries. There is a Teen Kick Off event happening tomorrow at the Main Library in New Iberia and another all ages community event next week.  I also want to congratulate all of the seniors in our community for making it to the big day! Graduation! And offer my congratulations to ALL of our kiddos for making it through another school year! My wish is for all the students of Iberia, Vermilion, St. Mary, and St. Martin parishes to have a wonderful summer!

One of the recommendations I have for this week is at one of my favorite places, Vermilionville! If you are into the paranormal, like me, and are looking for some ghost hunting fun, or a chance to meet a few local paranormal TV personalities, and give back to someone in need, then this event is for you!

A local organization, Louisiana Spirits, which offers free, professional investigations around Louisiana created this fundraising event with Vermilionville for one of their investigators, Chance Lafleur who has been battling Leukemia for a while now. Sadly, Chance lost his battle with Leukemia earlier this week but the event is still on to help support his family with the medical cost and funeral expenses. There will be food, door prizes, a silent raffle, and meet and greets. The after-hours ghost hunting event is reserved for VIP ticket holders who are 18 years and older, but anyone can attend the event from 4 pm to 7 pm for the other cool stuff happening, plus you get to walk around Vermilionville!

Now, on to our top recommendations for family fun this week:
