Summer break is officially here as area schools are ending the school year this week. That means parents in Iberia Parish are searching for summer camps, fun events and activities, and other entertaining things to do while the kids are home over the next couple of months.
I am excited to announce the Iberia Parish Library Summer Workshops are back for 2024! And for the first time since 2011, the Iberia Parish Library will also have summer workshops for adults as well.
Not sure what the summer workshops are? Well, please allow me to introduce them to you! I had only first heard of these amazing workshops in 2019 and my then 13-year-old twins were excited to participate in practically each one.
In addition to regular, free, weekly library programs, these workshops fill in the gaps over the summertime break for the children in New Iberia with fun-filled events, crafts, exciting projects, activities and so much more! I mean, how cool is it to be in the library after hours and have a nerf gun war in between the stacks of books?

The 2024 Iberia Parish Library Summer Workshops are celebrating their 39th year this summer. Events will include activities like cooking classes, painting workshops, fun crafts and other activities like a murder-mystery event and beginning martial arts. These workshops will take place around all branches of the Iberia Parish Library with some possibly held offsite or after normal library hours.
Adults 18+ will also have the chance to experience fun with the Iberia Parish Library this summer as well with activities from learning about photography basics to creating a fun watermelon wreath. You can preview the adult workshops here and decide which one you'd like to attend.
How Do I Sign Up for a Workshop?
Guidelines for both the children's and adult summer workshops will be the same. There will be no registrations accepted by phone. Parents must submit advanced registration via the Iberia Parish Library website or in-person at any Iberia Parish Library branch. And let me tell you, they fill up FAST! I remember sitting at my computer, literally as if I was about to run a marathon as registrations opened up so I could get both of my kiddos signed up for the workshops they wanted to attend.
The workshops range in age from preschoolers to teenagers and offer youth in Iberia Parish plenty of opportunities to mingle with other kids, meet up with friends, or meet some new ones! Again, all registrations must be done via their online registration system r in-person only at your local branch.
Workshops and events are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Take a look at the 2024 Summer Workshop Guide to preview the activities that your child may be interested in. You can also stop by one of the local branches to pick up a printed guide with all the info on each workshop for this upcoming summer and details on how to register.
Remember, all workshops are on a first-come, first-served basis, so we have the open dates for each week's workshops below!
Registration for the workshops begins the Monday prior to the week of the scheduled event. Pencil it in on the calendar, set a reminder on your phone, or add it to your Google calendar so you won't forget!

- Week 1 Workshops (June 3—June 7) registration opens Tues, May 28 at 9:30 AM
- Week 2 Workshops (June 10—June 14) registration opens Mon, June 3 at 9:30 AM
- Week 3 Workshops (June 17—June 21) registration opens Mon, June 10 at 9:30 AM
- Week 4 Workshops (June 24—June 28) registration opens Mon, June 17 at 9:30 AM
- Week 5 Workshops (July 1—July 5) registration opens Mon, June 24 at 9:30 AM

All adult workshops are for ages 18 and older. The events for the adult 2024 Iberia Parish Library Summer Workshops for adults are follows:

- Week 2 Workshops: Pottery
- Week 3 Workshops: Watermelon Wreath and Basics of Photography
- Week 4 Workshops: Choose Your Own Adventure Painting and Paper Mache
- Week 5 Workshops: Escape Room and Louisiana Diamond Art
- Week 6 Workshops: Agate Slices

Remember, you must register for these events prior to the workshop date which is normally a week or so before the actual event. If the events are full, you may have the opportunity to be put on a waitlist, but that does not guarantee a spot.
Some workshops have will have multiple sessions. Parents are asked to register their child for only one session of multiple workshops scheduled in order to allow the opportunity for all children to experience the fun. Children must meet all requirements for the workshops and all information requested must be submitted. Registrations with missing or partial information will not be accepted. The age of your child is based on their age as of the date of the workshop.
If for some reason your child can not attend the workshop once they have been registered, the Iberia Parish Library is asking parents to please call the library to cancel their registration so that others on the waitlist can attend.
