June officially marks the start of summer vacations, backyard barbeques, and scheduling some serious summer fun with our family and friends in New Iberia. We not only have fun filled holidays like the Summer Solstice, National Donut Day, and Father's Day this June but we also have other causes and events that you can learn about and recognize with your family this month.

National Ice Tea Month 

June 1-30 

We are kicking off the celebration at Macaroni KID New Iberia with National Ice Tea Month! We all have our go to favorites that satisfy our ice tea cravings in New Iberia. 

From good old fashioned sweet tea to the new and upcoming fad of enjoying a local barista's creation of an energy tea, this drink surely going to be a summer time staple with families in New Iberia. It is also the perfect month to make a batch of sun tea outside with the kids!

LGBTQ+ Pride Month

June 1-30 

LGBTQ+ Pride Month events are held nationwide in June as a way to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion in New York City. It's also a chance for those in the LGBTQ+ community and their allies to show support and organize against legislation aimed at the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender youth.

National PTSD Awareness Month 

June 1-30 

June is the month that we bring awareness and support to those who suffer from this seemingly invisible illness. Most associate PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, with veterans and those who serve in high impact professions such as police, fire fighters, and other medical support professions. However, PTSD can affect anyone. 

The impacts of traumatic events such as the death of a loved one, a natural disaster, or a personal attack can trigger this disorder. PTSD holds no boundaries or prejudice and can affect anyone.

National Zoo and Aquarium Month 

June 1-30 

Celebrate this summer with a trip to your favorite zoo or aquarium! You can keep it local and visit the Morgan City Petty Zoo or make it a summer getaway to visit your favorites, or find a new one to add to your list. 

If you can't make it to an aquarium, then why not make these Fish Tank Paper Plates with the kids this summer for some quality family time.

World Bicycle Day 

June 3

Celebrated every June, World Bicycle Day is the day to get out and enjoy a ride! Bring the kids around the neighborhood or take a ride around City Park in New Iberia.

Do-nut let this day go by without a celebration! Get one ... or a dozen! 

During the summer in New Iberia, parents are usually feeding more than just their own kids due to sleepovers and backyard parties making donuts the easy go-to for breakfast or snack time for hungry kids! Be sure to check the local donut shops in New Iberia, Jeanerette, Morgan City, Franklin, Abbeville, and Breaux Bridge for any deals and discounts today.

It's time to celebrate Dad this June in New Iberia! Recognize and thank all the men in your life who have had a positive impact on your child. Be sure to say thank you to all the dads, step-dads, uncles, and grandfathers for supporting our children.

Eat Your Vegetables Day

June 17

Veggies are a staple in our house and it is one of the easier snacks we go to, especially during the summer months with all the activity we have going on. The kids love a good veggie tray with ranch dressing for dipping. If you struggle to get your kiddos to eat veggies, we have these 5 Healthy Eating Tips for Busy Families. We also have a recipe for a veggie flatbread summer snack

You can also let the kids choose their own vegetable at the grocery or one of our local Farmer's Markets. If they are involved in the selection, chances are they might just find something they like. Shopping for veggies at the local markets makes it a lot more fun for the kids and you are also supporting a local, small businesses in our community.

Juneteenth

June 19

Juneteenth marks the date Texas slaves were told in 1865 that they were free — two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, Juneteenth emphasizes African American education and achievement and is a time marked with everything from family reunions to rodeos. 

The Pan-African flag was created in 1920. The colors represent freedom, pride, and the political power of Black Americans.
