June officially marks the start of summer vacations, backyard barbeques, and scheduling some serious summer fun with our family and friends in New Iberia.

National Ice Tea Month
June 1-30
We are kicking off the celebration at Macaroni KID New Iberia with National Ice Tea Month! We all have our go to favorites that satisfy our ice tea cravings in New Iberia. From good old fashioned sweet tea to the new and upcoming fad of enjoying a local barista's creation of an energy tea, this drink surely going to be a summer time staple with families in New Iberia. It is also the perfect month to make a batch of sun tea outside with the kids.

LGBTQ Pride Month
June 1-30
LGBTQ Pride events are held nationwide this month to mark Pride Month which is held each June as a way to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion in New York City. It is also a chance for those in the LGBTQ+ community and their allies to show support and organize against legislation aimed at the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender youth.

National PTSD Awareness Month
June 1-30
June is the month that we bring awareness and support to those who suffer from this seemingly invisible illness. Most associate PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, with veterans and those who serve in high impact professions such as police, fire fighters, and other medical support professions. However, PTSD can affect anyone. The impacts of traumatic events such as the death of a loved one, a natural disaster, or a personal attack can trigger this disorder. PTSD holds no boundaries or prejudice and can affect anyone.

National Zoo and Aquarium Month
June 1-30
Celebrate this summer with a trip to your favorite zoo or aquarium! You can keep it local and visit the Morgan City Petty Zoo or make it a summer getaway and visit your favorites, or find a new one to add to your list.
If you can't make it to an aquarium, then why not make these Fish Tank Paper Plates with the kids this summer for some quality family time?

National Gardening Week
June 5 - 10
Even if you don't have a green thumb, getting outside and doing some gardening with the kids is a great way to beat the summer boredom. Create your own vegetable garden in the back yard or grow some pretty flowers in the front. Let the kids pick the seeds and decide what to plant.
If you need some help on how to make your garden grow, then be sure to check out the Daylily Festival & Garden Show on June 3 in Abbeville! There will be plenty of plants and gardening items for sale as well as educational speakers.
One of my favorite publications that I subscribe to is from the LSU AgCenter. You can connect with them on Facebook for tips and ideas for your own garden. Their website also offers plenty of information to get your garden growing!

National Flag Week
June 11 - 17
National Flag Week is held every June to celebrate the date the United States flag was created. We also have National Flag Day on June 14 to commemorate the creation of the stars and stripes.
Plan a day of simple fun like making yummy dishes with red, white, and blue colors, take a walk down Main Street in New Iberia to visit the Veteran's Circle at Bouligny Plaza, or create this fun beaded American flag pin with the kids.

Men's Health Week
June 12 - 18
Recognized every June right before Father's Day, Men's Health Week is a time to check in with the all men we love in our lives. The purpose of this week is to bring awareness, education, and provide resources for our men to possibly avoid future medical issues and encourage men and young boys to treat preventable health problems. National Donut Day
June 2
Do-nut let this day go by without a celebration. Get one ... or a dozen! During the summer in New Iberia, local parents are usually feeding more than just their own kids due to sleepovers and backyard parties with our children and their friends.
Donuts are usually the go to breakfast or snack for hungry kids! Be sure to check the local donut shops in New Iberia, Jeanerette, Morgan City, Franklin, Abbeville, and Breaux Bridge for any deals and discounts today.

World Bicycle Day

Celebrated every June, World Bicycle Day is the day to get out and enjoy a ride! Bring the kids around the neighborhood or take a ride around City Park in New Iberia.

National Egg Day
June 3
I must say eggs are my favorite dish! As Bubba would say, you can fry them, you can boil them, you can scramble them, or you can create an omelet with all of your favorite extras.
Cook something fun with the kids in the kitchen or create some fun salt art eggs for a craft time with the kids. Also, check out this easy egg dish to prepare on hectic summer mornings that the whole family will love.

Eat Your Vegetables Day
June 17
Veggies are a staple in our house and it is one of the easier snacks we go to, especially during the summer months with all the activity we have going on. The kids love a good veggie tray with ranch dressing for dipping. If you struggle to get your kiddos to eat veggies, we have these 5 Healthy Eating Tips for Busy Families. We also have a recipe for a veggie flatbread summer snack.
You can also let the kids choose their own vegetable at the grocery or one of our local Farmer's Markets. If they are involved in the selection, chances are they might just find something they like. Shopping for veggies at the local markets makes it a lot more fun for the kids and you are also supporting a local, small businesses in our community.

Father's Day
June 18
It's time to celebrate Dad this June in New Iberia! Recognize and thank all the men in your life who have had a positive impact on your child. Be sure to say thank you to all the dads, step-dads, uncles, and grandfathers for supporting our children!
Our favorite baker in New Iberia, The Frosted Apron, is holding a Daddy and Me event at the Pie Bar at Cane River Pecan Company. Dad and child will decorate 4 summer themed cupcakes, receive an ice cream treat, and both can choose a drink of choice (coffee, lemonade, coke, water, etc). Seating is limited!

Juneteenth
June 19
Juneteenth marks the date Texas slaves were told in 1865 that they were free — two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, Juneteenth emphasizes African American education and achievement and is a time marked with everything from family reunions to rodeos.
The Pan-African flag was created in 1920. The colors represent freedom, pride, and the political power of Black Americans. (Find out more: How to Talk to Children about Juneteenth). We have a few events happening this June from New Iberia to Franklin to recognize and celebrate Juneteenth:
Juneteenth - A Freedom Celebration on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at West End Park in New Iberia.
Soul Food Festival 2023 will run on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17 at Parc Sur La Teche in Franklin.

We have written several articles offering tips and resources on how to incorporate healthy habits when you or your kids are online. But this is the day we celebrate all things social media!
I was an early social media adopter from 2008. I enjoy learning about social media tips and staying on top of current trends. The last 15 years has brought tremendous growth in marketing, offered many the chance to work remotely, but more importantly it has opened the ability to connect with people we might not have ever had a chance to meet.
