I had such a great time last Saturday at the Po-boys and Puppies event! The kids made some amazing crafts, some of the animals of IPAC were adopted, and we raised funds for the shelter and got some much-needed donations for the fur babies in New Iberia! Please feel free to continue to support IPAC as I know they are again full of loving animals looking for new homes.
I truly enjoy working the live events so much that it does not feel like work! And while the last couple of years has not allowed for many of those, I am grateful to be able to get out in the community again and meet our wonderful readers and gain some new ones.
We released our VBS Summer Guide this week so be sure to check that out! We have them listed out by parish, so it will be easier to find for your area. If you know of any free VBS events happening that we missed, let us know! VBS was always a lifesaver for me with my twins during the summer. It gave them time to have fun, create, and meet new friends and allowed me to catch up on work projects or personal errands. I am so grateful for our community and all those VBS summers!
One of my favorite articles this week is all about a low sugar treat, Watermelon Pops! We have a huge watermelon in the kitchen that I will be cutting up soon and trying out for myself... if I don't eat all the cut-up chunks first!
Another free event happening this weekend is Creole Culture Day at Vermilionville and I wanted to be sure to mention it. We have made this event every year for the past several years until the pandemic, so I am so happy to say it is back and happening this weekend. I embrace my Creole heritage proudly as I know many of us in Louisiana do! It is a great way to meet locals, and some tourists, and learn all about the Creole heritage. The day involves live music, dancing, great eats, and activities for the kids... and it's FREE!
Our calendar is filled with local, free or low-cost, family-friendly activities happening this June and I am still adding more! Be sure to keep coming back to check it out. Now, on to our top recommendations for family fun this week:
