Celebrate National Macaroni Day this July with These Fun Crafts

Pick your pasta to make these fun and easy crafts with the kids!

It's National Macaroni Day and we are celebrating at Macaroni KID New Iberia! We know that macaroni noodles are not just for eating. It is of course one of the treasured items we love to use for crafts!

We have put a together a list fun ideas you can turn into craft time with your kids using different types of macaroni noodles. These crafts can be done anytime of the year and can contribute to quality time with the kids while everyone gets creative.

Macaroni Animals 

Materials:

  • Elbow macaroni 
  • Scissors
  • Glue 
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Cotton balls and/or pom-poms
  • Googly eyes 
  • Pipe cleaners 
  • Paint and paint brushes 
  • Markers and/or crayons 

Directions:

  1. Use the scissors to cut the pipe cleaners to different sizes as needed 
  2. Paint the popsicle sticks or draw on them to create your animal's body and let dry
  3. Paint your elbow macaroni to use for extra decorations on your animal and let dry (These are perfect for a mouth, hair, feet, tail!) 
  4. Glue the googly eyes and your dry elbow macaroni on your popsicle stick animals 
  5. Add the cotton balls or pom-poms to create fur, hair, tails, or paws
  6. Repeat this process until you have a zoo

Macaroni Pasta Puppets

Materials:

  • Rotini macaroni 
  • Paint and paintbrushes 
  • Googly eyes 
  • Pom-poms, fuzzy balls, sequins, and adhesive foam shapes 
  • Glue and/or glue stick
  • Hot glue gun (Make sure there is an adult to supervise use with the hot glue gun)
  • Old sock(s)

Directions:

  1. Paint a group of rotini with your favorite colors of choice and let dry
  2. Glue your painted rotini to create hair to the top of the sock with the hot glue gun and let dry 
  3. Glue your googly eyes and other fun items to your puppet 
  4. Now you are ready for a puppet show

Macaroni Jewelry 

Materials:

  • Tortiglioni macaroni 
  • Paint and paint brushes 
  • String 
  • Scissors 

Directions:

  1. Paint your macaroni pasta and let dry 
  2. While your macaroni is drying, begin to cut your string for necklace and/or bracelet length 
  3. Begin adding your dry painted macaroni to your string. Make sure to leave enough room to tie it in knot for your perfect length. 
  4. Now show off your pasta-perfect jewelry for all to see

Macaroni Butterflies  

Materials:

  • Farfalle macaroni 
  • Paint and paint brushes 
  • Glue and glue sticks
  • Construction paper
  • Markers and crayons and glitter for extra flare 

Directions:

  1. Paint your farfalle macaroni and let dry 
  2. While your macaroni is drying, decorate your paper with your favorite background like a tree, the sky, a field, a mountain or a lake  
  3. Once dry glue your macaroni to your paper 
  4. Add your glitter for the extra flare 
  5. Now show off your artwork for all to see
