Restock the Shelves! Let's Bring the Local Food Pantry Back to Life!

St. Francis Diner is closed this week due to food and supply shortage

Over the last 12 months, we have all felt the effects of rising prices at the gas pumps, in the grocery stores, and throughout the community overall. The rising prices may have caused us to cancel summer vacations, stop purchasing some of our favorite items, or may have caused some financial hardships for some. So, what happens when you face the struggle of buying groceries or putting food on the table to feed your family?

Some may have the option to rely on the support of family and friends to get them through a hard time while others may have no alternative but to turn to our local food bank.

But what happens when the local food bank is closed due to a lack of funds, donations, and supplies? Unfortunately, this is exactly what happen this week when St. Francis Diner - New Iberia was forced to shut down due to a shortage of food and supplies.

The post to their Facebook page on Labor Day was hard for me to digest knowing how many in our community depend on the support of the diner. It was personal as well, as I have had to utilize the support of local charities at one of the lowest points of my life some years ago. I immediately wanted to figure out what I could do, besides donating, to help them restock their shelves and get back out into the community.

I know I was not the only one wanting to help our local food bank get back on its feet. I have seen many of our local schools and organizations posting to social media about donation drives and collections this week to support St. Francis Diner in New Iberia. That truly warms my heart, as I know this community pulls together to support each other without hesitation.

If you are looking to help, check with your child's school or simply donate directly to the diner. The diner requires a variety of canned food donations as well as monetary support. As of today, they are still closed until Monday, September 12th. So let's be sure to flood the doors when they open next week!

If you would like to donate food items, you can contact St. Francis Diner  (337) 369-3362 regarding dropping off canned food donations, or you can donate monetarily, and send donations to:

St. Francis Diner

New Iberia, La 70562

We are only months away from the holiday season so let's make sure their shelves are stocked! Can you imagine what would happen if each resident of New Iberia simply donated $1.00? We know it takes a village, and I know the folks in our community are gearing up to get our local food pantry back in action!
