Whew! And I thought last week was a whirlwind, but with Mardi Gras wrapping up this week, I am in official need of some major rest and relaxation! We attended several parades as well as rode in the Youngsville Parade last weekend. We had a blast! However, it is a totally different atmosphere celebrating from the float then it is watching it from the crowds. If you know, you know!
Although I love celebrating during the Mardi Gras season at the different parades and events it definitely can take its toll on you. I was so excited to be back in the news studio at News 15 with Alex Worstell and the Morning Show crew on Ash Wednesday making Swear Jars to kick off Lent. This craft is not only for kids but for the whole family to be more involved during Lent. It can help teach each of us to be more mindful of how we speak to each other, our extended family, and friends. This craft can go hand in hand with the other important parts of the Lenten season like fasting, penitence, and almsgiving. Let us know if you make one with your family this Lent!

Speaking of Lent, one way we celebrate in New Iberia is with Fish Fry Fridays. As a homeschooling parent, I always look for tips and resources for our lesson plans. Whether you homeschool or not, we have a great article this week with some easy tips on helping younger kids learn sight words. I am a huge advocate for helping children not only learn to read but fall in love with reading as well. Working with them at home will not only help with school lessons but will also help foster a love for learning.
