We all know that April showers bring May flowers so we gathered some items from our crafting box as well as a few other items from around the house and got busy making these easy flower crafts. These are the perfect gift for all any of the moms in your life! Next, we will list what you will need to create these fun crafts at home to surprise Mom.

Mother's Day Flower Garden

What you need:

  • Paper or Styrofoam plates
  • Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Scotch Tape
  • Paint and paint brushes (Markers or crayons will work too!)
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Coffee filters
  • Clean up supplies

 Instructions:

Have an adult cut a few small slits in the paper plate (three or four will do!) Turn your paper plate upside down and paint it. We chose green but you can do whatever color feels good to you. Let your plate dry.

While your plate is drying you will create your flower stems and leaves. Take a pipe cleaner and fold it in half evenly, twisting it to the bottom. But don't twist it all the way to the bottom! When you get to the end, make the bottom of your pipe cleaner do a split. This will be taped on the underside of your plate, so no one will see it. You can make your flower as long or as short as you want. It's totally up to you. You can also make as many or as few of the flowers that you decide.

Next, get your construction paper and cut out some leaves and grass for your garden. You can also cut some petals for extra decoration. These can be any size or shape you desire.

Now that your plate is dry, grab your glue and place some glue along the edges of the plate. Start gluing your grass and leaves on the sides of the plate. Let those dry. The idea is to place them all around the plate with the tip of the blade of grass sticking up. Put your plate aside and let the grass dry.

While your grass is drying, grab your coffee filters. Fold them in half, and then fold again and give it a little scrunch. We are getting ready to color our flowers.

Now that your plate is dry and most of the grass too, take your pipe cleaner stem from earlier and slide it through the slits in the plate from the bottom up. Tape the bottom of the pipe cleaners to the underneath side to make them sturdy. Put all your stems in place.

Now we are creating our flowers. Get your coffee filter flower and wrap them around the top of your pipe cleaner stem so that each side is touching. Get a small piece of tape and wrap it around the top of the flower to hold it together.

Now color or paint your filters what ever color you choose. Let them dry. You can also add lady bugs, rocks, or other garden items to your Mother's Day Garden.

Pen and Pencil Flowers with Cup Holder

What you need:

  • Glue and tape
  • Scissors
  • Construction paper
  • Painters tape or washi tape
  • Coffee filters
  • Pen or pencils (pens with a pull off cap will work best)
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Paint or markers
  • Small disposable bathroom cups ( plastic or paper)
  • Clean up supplies

Instructions:

Take your pen or pencil (or both!) and wrap tape around it. For the pens, make sure to stay above the area where the cap slides on the bottom. For the pencil leave some room at the tip so the pencil can still be sharpened. The idea is to have the tape lap over each other to create a stem or bark like appearance.

Once that is done, paint your stem. We chose green and brown but again this is totally up to you. Let that dry.

While your stem is drying, get your small bathroom cups and cut a slit in the bottom of the cup. Turn the cup upside down and paint it any color you choose. I love to add a coat of glitter glue too! Let that dry.

Get your coffee filters and do the same technique as mentioned above for the paper plate garden by wrapping the filter around the top of your pen/pencil. The scrunch is my favorite part!

Next, take your flower and paint your coffee filter top. Paint works best since once it is dry, it will hardened a bit and makes the flower sturdy. But you can also use markers here too. It's up to you!

Now that your flower is dry, both stem and filter, slide it into the slit in your paper cup. Your flower should sit to the side a bit and the cup makes the flower stand up. You can also cut out leaves and tape them to your stem for extra pizzazz!

Happy Mother's Day from Macaroni KID New Iberia!
