Everyone loves to receive an inspirational message from time to time. And it was several years ago that I found my first painted rock while living in Lafayette. I was so excited to find it and the message on the rock simply said, "Smile!"
We now have communities throughout Acadiana as well as other cities around America who are growing with the trend of painting rocks and leaving them around their town. Some have inspiring or comforting messages and others are simply decorative. The best part is after creating your masterpiece, you can leave your rock around town for other folks to find as a way to brighten their day.
One family in New Iberia is creating that same excitement with Roxy the Rock Snake Twins in City Park. I came across a post in one of my many Facebook groups last month and found out about Roxy the Rock Snake in City Park. It seems that she now has a twin! I talked a little bit about it on my last crafting segment on News 15 with Alex Worstell as Alex, Adam, and I painted some rocks to add to the collection.

The Gisclair family in New Iberia created Roxy in June as a way to keep the kids entertained over summer break. Painting rocks is an easy, inexpensive summer craft for kids, and it allows them to not only get outside and be active but also allows the kids the chance to be creative with art.
To find Roxy the Rock Snake and her twin, head over to the playground area in City Park, around the old fire station building, and you will find Roxy and her twin across from the playground. Now, we can come together as community to help Roxy the Rock Snake and her twin grow around City Park!

The idea is not to take a rock as in some of the other painted rock groups around Acadiana but rather to leave one so we can see how long Roxy will grow. Grab some rocks from the driveway or garden and get painting this weekend. I have three rocks to add to the collection, including Alex and Adam's creations from the show that day.

If you like this and want to do more rock painting, then be sure to check out these groups on Facebook to connect with other rock-painting enthusiasts around Acadiana. Some are more active than others and who knows, we may start a trend that brings more rock animals around Acadiana.
