We did our bi-weekly crafting segment this week with a focus on the littlest of our Macaroni KID New Iberia followers who are at the beginning of their learning journey. We decided to make sensory bags to celebrate Shark Week and get the kids ready to head back to school next month. What I love most about these sensory bags is that they offer children a chance to have fun and be creative while learning at the same time. However, there were a bunch of adults in the studio this week that enjoyed playing with these bags as well!

We were also happy to have a new member of the News 15 team in studio with us this week while we were crafting with Alex and Adam. The News 15 Morning Show on KADN was happy to welcome Scott Brazda to the news family this week. If you've been in Acadiana for any length of time, I am sure you know who Scott is!
What is a Sensory Bag?
Sensory bags, also known as sensory bins or sensory kits, have gained popularity as a valuable learning tool for young children. These simple and versatile bags are filled with various materials and objects that stimulate the senses, encouraging exploration, creativity, and cognitive development.
What we love is that you can make these sensory bags with items around the house. Using things like rice, macaroni noodles, or in our case clear glue and water. Making these bags with your children allows them to spend quality time with you, exercise their own creativity, and learn at the same time.

Sensory Bags
What you need:
- Clear plastic storage bag
- Markers for extra decoration
- Small items from around the house like beans, buttons, or noodles
- Small toys or gummy candy, depending on your theme
- Clear glue, hand sanitizer, or you can even use rice or noodles
- Glitter, pom-poms, foam stickers or other decorative crafting items
- Clean up supplies
Instructions:
Grab a clear storage bag from the kitchen pantry. Quick tip: If your bag has writing on it, get some rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball too. Take your cotton ball, dab it in some alcohol and rub off the writing if you desire.
Next, decide what your theme will be. We decided to go with a Shark Week theme and used a pack of mini sea creature toys. Alex decided to make a pot, with what else ..... macaroni noodles! You can draw images or designs on your bag as well. Do this before you add anything to it.
Then, decide what you will add to your clear storage bag. For our bag we added part clear Elmer's glue and water. You do not want to add to much water, but just enough to dilute the glue so it doesn't stick to the toys, trinkets, or the bag itself.
Once you have the desired amount of liquids, you then begin to add your small items. We added our toys and Alex added her noodles. Then for some extra flair, you can add sequins, glitter, pom-poms or other decorative crafting items you may have.
Now that you have all your items placed inside your bag, you will want to tape your bag to a table or some sturdy cardboard to hold it in place so your little doesn't accidently push it off the table or pull it open. We tapped ours down with some painting tape to a thick piece of cardboard.
It is time for learning and fun now! Your child will enjoy feeling the different textures by pushing the items around the bag. For our Shark Week themed bag, we made the sea creatures swim and pushed the rocks and glitter around. For Alex's boiling pot bag, the goal was to put the things you cook inside the pot.
