Hello August! Who's ready for school supply shopping, the fall festival season, and cooler temps in New Iberia? Well, with the calendar officially moving us into August this week, we are that much closer to one of my favorite times of the year.

Our 2023 Head Back to School with Macaroni KID New Iberia Community Guide was released this earlier week and we have already made several changes and additions. Be sure to stay connected and continue to check the guide this month for new information and resources that your family can use as you prepare to send the kids back to school this month.
One of the holidays celebrated this month, World Breastfeeding Week, is celebrated during the first week of August. Today, August 3, is celebrated as National Watermelon Day and I celebrated with a watermelon snowball from Cool Scene. It sure hit the spot in this heat! It's shrimp month in Delcambre as they get ready for the Delcambre Shrimp Festival happening this August. The market this weekend will feature shrimp dishes, shrimp crafts for the kids, live music and shopping with local vendors.
2. Van's Kiddie Care Back to School Drive - New Iberia

Van's Kiddie Care is holding a back to school drive in New Iberia this August to help local student start the new year with supplies. Kids will be given snacks, a backpack, and supplies at the event. The event is geared to help children ages 5 to 12 years old.

Iberia Parish Big Brown Cares is coming together with Raising Cane's to support our youth this August. Bring the kids to Jeanerette City Park for a free meal from Raising Cane's. Children must be present to receive a meal.
4. Back to School Community Fair - Franklin

Join the 100 Black Men of St. Mary Parish and Healthy Blue for the Back to School Community Fair. Get resources from several community partners, school supplies for the children, back to school hair cuts for the boys, wellness information, and so much more. Lunch will be provided.
