Stacey Dempsey from The Frosted Apron joined us on Good Day Acadiana last year for all things Halloween and demonstrated two simple ideas you can do with the kids to celebrate at home. While Alex and I made the cutest Halloween Treat Bags for our party, we needed Stacey's expertise to find the perfect Halloween treat!

Pumpkin Scarecrow Cupcakes
I was so mesmerized making these cupcakes! These treats are the perfect item for your Halloween party and will be loved by kids of all ages. You don't have to be a baking pro like Stacey to make these as we easily demonstrated on the show. With a few basic baking tools and other snack items, you can create these adorable Pumpkin Scarecrow Cupcakes in a few easy steps.
Here's what you'll need:
Supplies
🎃 Orange buttercream icing in a piping bag with Tip 1m (pumpkin)
🎃 Green buttercream icing in a piping bag with Tip 352 (leaves and vines)
🎃 Black buttercream icing in a piping bag with Tip 5 (mouth of pumpkin/also use as glue to make the hat)
🎃 Vanilla Wafer Cookies (hat)
🎃 Brown or yellow mini or regular M&Ms (eyes/nose)
🎃 Pretzel Sticks (arms)
Optional: Use candy pearls, sprinkles, or sugar crystals for some extra flair.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
First you will need cupcakes. It's best to make these in advance so they can be completely cooled before you begin your creation. But you could also buy them premade at a local grocery and just remove any icing.
You will need different sizes of cupcakes to create your scarecrow body. There are two different sizes you can make. For a larger version, you will need to use a large cupcake and a regular sized cupcake. For a smaller version, you can use a regular cupcake and a mini cupcake for the top.
Once you have your plain cupcakes ready, make sure to remove the liners. Per Stacey, if the tops of your cupcake are a little to rounded, just cut off the a small portion of the tops to make them flat.
Now add your cupcakes on a small plate. Add a little icing to the bottom of your larger cupcake to hold it in place on your plate. Do the same thing to the smaller cupcake and place it on top of the larger one.
Take your orange icing and begin to cover the entire bottom half of your cupcake. You will then do the same thing to the top portion.
Now, you can make your scarecrow hat. Take your vanilla wafer cookies and break them in different sizes. Using a little icing, secure a smaller piece to a larger one for the hat. Place on top of your cupcake.
Next, add your M&Ms for the eyes and nose. Take your black icing and add a mouth to the head of your cupcake.
Now you are ready for the vines and leaves using your green icing. You can create a ring of leaves around the bottom, add hair to the top, or make a bow or tie. Get creative! Now add your pretzel sticks for the arms.
For some extra flair on your pumpkin scarecrow, add candy pearls, sugar crystals, or sprinkles to create a personal touch.
