When it comes to Halloween, it seems the number of local events gets bigger, however so does the cost of celebrating. From costumes to candy, and scary props and decorations, Halloween has become one of the most expensive holidays for American families to celebrate. And for families with multiple children, these costs can add up quickly.
While trunk or treats and fall festivals are usually great for younger children and their families, our teens are also looking for things to do over the weekend from New Iberia to Morgan City that are not going to break the bank or their parent's wallets. Being a mother to two teenagers, I decided to do some digging this week and found several attractions that are are free or low-cost for our teens and their families to enjoy. Many of the attractions are being set up to support local community organizations like local food banks and the St. Jude Foundation, so it's a way to enjoy the weekend with your teens and give back at the same time.
From New Iberia to Morgan City, here are 10 local, free or low-cost haunted attractions to enjoy with your teens this October through Halloween night:

Halloween in the Canefield - Jeanerette
Start off the weekend with a haunted drive and check out the Halloween decorations at 2410 Hubertville Road in Jeanerette. The spooky, lighted attraction will be running their Halloween show from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Friday through Sunday on weekends during the month of October. Tune into 100.5 FM for the full experience as you enjoy the light show from the comfort of your vehicle.

Rougarou Fest 2024 - Houma

The Rougarou Fest is a free, family-friendly event that highlights and celebrates the culture of Louisiana with live music, activities and games, and plenty of Cajun food and spirit. The Rougarou Fest will take place over three days this October in Houma near the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center. From a howling contest to carnival rides and great eats, this festival has something for everyone.

Join in for a ghoulishly fun time with The Frosted Apron and The Main Cup this October for a step by step cake decorating class. Participants will use marshmallow fondant and buttercream icing to create your very own Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin face cake.

New Iberia Annual Halloween Parade
The City of New Iberia is back with the annual Halloween parade on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 4:00pm. The parade will start at City Hall as they turn the fountain black and then parade the traditional route down Main Street to Jefferson Street. All the ghouls, ghosts, and monsters are out for this event each year and it's a great site on Main Street with the everyone "ghouled" up in costume.

Franklin Fire Department: Haunted House
The Franklin Fire Department is hosting a local haunted house for the community to enjoy. The attraction will be open October 28th, 29th and 30th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Entry is free, however they are accepting donations of canned goods to for donations to the local food pantry.

Boutte's House of Horrors - New Iberia
The Boutte Family is making plans for the community to enjoy a hauntingly good scare in New Iberia this October. Make plans to get scared on October 29th and October 31st from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Entry is only $5.00 per person but they will allow free entry on Halloween night. All proceeds from the event will benefit The South Down Heroes in their efforts to support St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Get a good scare or two as you drive Sycamore Street on Halloween night to the haunted graveyard as the ghouls and goblins wait for you. The graveyard is located at 904 Sycamore Street in Morgan City.
