Bring Your Favorite Fairy Tale to Life with this Magical Craft

National Tell a Fairy Tale Day is February 26

By Tracie Ysaguire, Publisher for Macaroni KID New Iberia February 21, 2024

It was all about the fairy tales this week as we crafted pure fun on our bi-weekly segment on Good Day Acadiana with Alex Worstell. On February 26, we celebrate National Tell a Fairy Tale Day and I thought, who doesn't love a good fairy tale

Of course I asked Adam, Scott, and Alex what their favorite fairy tale was, and they all drew a blank! But we were able to come up with a good one to create with simple items from around the house. Check out the post on the Macaroni KID New Iberia Facebook page from the show this week:

How to Make Your Child's Favorite Fairy Tale Come to Life

Fairy tales come in all shapes and sizes. From the classics like Cinderella to Trolls, children who are just beginning to learn how to read or are early readers will love to see their favorite story come to life with a craft. This will give mom and dad quality time while enjoying a good book and creating magic with their child.

Did you guess what we created for the show? I went with two classics from my childhood, The Three Little Pigs and Rapunzel. One of my daughters is a huge Tangled fan too, so she was excited to help me create some of our craft to display on the show. We used empty paper towel rolls, popsicle sticks, plenty of paint and lots of imagination.

The key to creating this magic craft is truly open! There are no specific instructions except to use your imagination! Here is a list of recommended items you can use from around the house to make your favorite fairy tale come to life.

Supplies You'll Need:

  • Paper towel or toilet paper empty rolls
  • Crafting pom-poms, googly eyes, stickers, or glitter
  • Construction paper
  • Paints, brushes, markers, and scissors
  • Popsicle sticks or clothespins
  • Craft glue and/or hot glue
  • Pipe cleaner sticks for crafting
  • Empty egg cartons or other small cartons and boxes
  • Noodles, beans or other small decorative items

Alex decided to go with Jack and the Beanstalk and I must say our craft came out so good! We created vines and added leaves to make our craft come to life. And of course we created a little Jack from a popsicle stick climbing up the stalk.

Encouraging your kids to be creative will help them learn to enjoy reading as well as help them develop critical thinking skills and problem solving techniques. In their minds, they are just having fun but they are learning so much at the same time.
