Serving Our Community: AHSA Commandos Empowers Home School Athletics

The newly created volleyball team is rallying local businesses for support in their inaugural season

Last month, the AHSA Commandos Volleyball team held tryouts for the newly formed home school volleyball team that will compete in the fall of 2024 under the ACEL (Association of Christian Educators of Louisiana) league. I was excited to see so many kids show up to tryout for the teams! As part of the coaching staff for this new endeavor under the Acadiana Home School Athletics portfolio, I am excited to work with the kids in our program as we gear up for summer practices.

Last year Acadiana Home School Athletics held several clinics at the Cajun Elite Training Facility for local homeschoolers. My family and I participated in just about each one and loved it. We had students from several parishes who showed up to play, learn, and have fun. The group was a mix of experienced players and those who had never played before. It was great to see all of the students leave each clinic with huge smiles on their faces, asking when they could come back and do it again.

That interest led Caroline Mader, Head Coach, to dig in and find out more about what could be done to create a new sports option for local homeschoolers under the existing umbrella of sports. Currently, the Acadiana Home School Athletics offers track, cross country, soccer, track and field, and tennis for homeschooled students.

The homeschooling community has grown significantly in the last couple of years in the Acadiana area and parents actively seek events and activities to get their students involved. Adding volleyball to the list of available options for home school students gives more kids the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities during the school year.

With this year being the inaugural season, the team, coaching staff, parents, and facilitators are reaching out to area businesses and organizations to gather support.

Are You a Business or Organization in Acadiana Interested in Supporting The AHSA Commandos?

We have an exciting season ahead of us! The entire team and support staff are excited to play volleyball under the Commandos organization. The AHSA organization strives to provide a constructive and positive sports opportunity for the educational, physical, spiritual, and social growth of home school students in the Acadiana area. AHSA has structured the organization and all of its activities to be consistently and forthrightly Christian as we give love and honor to our Lord Jesus Christ.

We currently have enough students to form a Varsity Girls Team, Varsity Boys Team, and Junior Varsity Girls Team to compete in the ACEL organization this year. In our initial year, our volleyball team will incur several costs; including practice and game court rentals, referee fees, uniform fees, equipment fees, etc. We are asking Acadiana area businesses and organizations for donations and support to help us grow this new endeavor.

A sponsorship of any amount can make a huge difference for these athletes and will greatly be appreciated! Our team practice shirts will proudly display your business's name and/or logo and we will also have "Thank You to Our Sponsors" signs displayed at our home games.
