As Tropical Storm Francine pulls closer to our area, local meteorologists, school districts, city, state, and parish officials as well other community organizations are instructing residents to prepare the landfall of tropical storm and hurricane force conditions in the Acadiana area. As of Monday afternoon, September 9, 2024, forecasters are predicting landfall in and around Vermilion Bay with a Category 1 hurricane in our area.
As I began to see numerous posts, updates, and information stream onto social media channels, I felt the need to put the information I was seeing into a resource that can be shared in one place. We will continue to update this list as much as we are able to over the next few days.
The information and updates being released for families in our Macaroni KID parishes of Iberia, Vermilion, St. Mary, and St. Martin before the storm hit is listed below. As always, check with the original post and original organization for more details and questions. Please take heed of the warnings and instructions as given to you by officials over the next few days.
The majority of the information in this article has been copied from officials in our area.

Current projections have Francine making landfall between 5 and 6 PM on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, as a Category 1 hurricane.

After those are restored, all other areas will be assessed for damage, and the easiest repairs will be made first. Please be patient. City Crews will be working diligently to restore your power as quickly and safely as possible.
Once the winds reach 35 MPH, the Police Department, Fire Department, and the Electrical Department WILL NOT respond to calls.
Although no mandatory evacuation order has been issued for St. Mary Parish, we urge residents to prepare to “Shelter-in-Place”. Please remain inside your homes and stay off City streets once weather conditions begin to deteriorate.
