The 8th Annual Butterfly Project Prom Dress Giveaway will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 and Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the Acadiana Mall in Lafayette, LA.
We will be hosting up to 500+ high school teens for this event. The prom dresses are given at no cost, but attendees must be of high school age and enrolled in a high school, homeschool, private school, or other entity that hosts a prom-like function (proof required). This event is open to ALL high school students in the Acadiana area. It is not required to live in Lafayette Parish to participate. Students are asked to bring a high school ID or recent report card.
The day will consist of:
- Prom related items such as jewelry and corsages
- Shopping for a dress with the help of volunteers
- Walk the runway to say "YES to the dress" and ring our bell
- Complimentary professional pictures in the dress with a prom sash and crown
- Simple on-site alterations available to make your dress fit like a dream

Throughout the day we hop to also give away the following prizes thanks to local donations and sponsors:
- Free nail salon gift cards
- Free hair style gift cards
- Eyebrow service gift cards
- Makeup gift cards
This event is hosted by New Day Community Outreach, a non-profit organization focusing on providing community events and various outreach efforts to our teens, the elderly, the homeless, and other special populations. Under her leadership, New Day Community Outreach has provided free dresses to over 2,500 teens and special needs individuals.
In 2022, we began adding an additional giveaway specifically for special needs families and their caregivers as well. With attendees coming from the entire Acadiana area, and even as far as Mississippi, the impact and need for this event is undeniable.
