The New Iberia Advent Activity is a series of free, community-focused holiday activities that take place every December for families to enjoy the holiday season throughout downtown New Iberia. It has become a treasured event for families in New Iberia to celebrate the spirit of Christmas within our community.
The event began in 2023 with an inspired idea from Teresa Courtois, who was looking for something fun to do with her children while in New Iberia during the pandemic and the lockdown that followed. As many may recall, our local community events and celebrations were cancelled, including Mardi Gras parades, our cherished festivals, and free community activities at our local libraries. Teresa brought the concept to the mayor, Freddie DeCourt, and the City of New Iberia, and a family favorite for the Christmas holiday season in New Iberia was born.

The event happens throughout downtown New Iberia for 21 days in December. Participating businesses, shops, and organizations pull together for different activities for children and adults to enjoy, ranging from movie nights to Christmas crafts. A new event is announced each morning at 11:00 AM via the New Iberia Advent Activity Facebook page each morning for the following day, allowing families to plan ahead. The activities are free to attend thanks to local sponsorships and businesses around New Iberia.

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, the New Iberia Advent Activity is holding a fundraiser to help with the expenses of planning the activities and purchasing supplies for this annual holiday favorite. The 2nd Annual Battle of the Mixologist will be taking place at Bambino's Burgers on Main Street in downtown New Iberia, offering adults a fun night for a great cause. Doors open at 6:00 PM with cocktail serving starting at 7:00 PM.
The event offers a cocktail competition of holiday beverages for amateurs and professionals. Think you've got the best holiday cocktail recipe? It's free to enter the contest; however, participants must bring the ingredients for their concoctions. All entries must have a Christmas theme name and use as many holiday-inspired flavors as possible, according to the New Iberia Advent Activity.

Attendees will taste the entries via the provided mini-shot glasses and vote for their favorites. They can also purchase a full-size portion of the entries, which will determine the overall winner of the best drink. Tickets can be purchased online for the event or at the door. Single tickets are $30.00 per person, with couples at $50.00 each. Parents, line up those babysitters and make plans for a night of community, fun, and food while bringing smiles to the faces of so many children over the holiday season in New Iberia.
