The Bayou Teche Museum offers entertainment, interactive, and educational opportunities for visitors and groups of all ages in downtown New Iberia. Located on Main Street, directly next to The Sliman Theater, the museum is the a great place to enjoy while visiting New Iberia to learn about the culture and history of Iberia Parish.
The museum provides guided and self-guided tours and events for educational groups of all kinds – including teachers and students, historians and more. The offer a fun, hands-on programs that educate visitors about the aspect of the Bayou Teche region and the impact of New Iberia, known as the Queen City on the Teche.
The Bayou Teche Museum opened during the summer of 2010 in downtown New Iberia. The museum is part of the Blue Star Museum which offers free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families during the year. The program normally begins in May of each year and runs through Labor Day of that same year.
Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and participating museums across America. The free admission program is available for those currently serving in the United States Military—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard as well as members of the Reserves, National Guard, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps—and up to five family members.
