Donated to the City of New Iberia by the Sliman family in 1994, then State Representative "Bo" Ackal secured funding to preserve and restore it to its useful purpose. The Sliman Theater for the Performing Arts is located at 129 East Main Street and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Sliman, formerly known as the Evangeline Theater, is the host for many private and corporate functions in downtown New Iberia.
