Welcome, September! It's one of my favorite months for a several reasons! Fall officially arrives toward the end of the month and everyone from Morgan City to New Iberia is desperately awaiting those cooler temps to arrive in our area this year.
The local fall music and food festival season kicks off and in New Iberia alone, there are two major festivals in September and October for locals to celebrate at, as well as plenty of live music events and local cook-offs to keep our weekends full.
Football and volleyball games are back in full swing for our local high schools, as well as our celebrated Louisiana teams like LSU, ULL, and of course we have our Sunday afternoon football parties to cheer on the New Orleans Saints. Our evenings slowly get longer as we watch the leaves begin to change to the vibrant gold and red that for many symbolizes the official arrival of fall.

This is the month for you to focus on you! As parents, being our best self truly means we can be the best for the ones we love.
Whether you choose to focus on mental or physical improvement, or a mix of both, this is the time to develop better habits. Start by joining a local gym, sign up for a pottery or art class, or get in on a yoga class or Zumba class at one of our local libraries. It's okay to love yourself and you will be better for it in the long run.

Cheese Pizza and Pepperoni Pizza Day
Sept. 5 and Sept. 20

Celebrate by ordering your pizza from your favorite local restaurant or grill your pizza at home with the kids to celebrate.

Grandparents Day
Sept. 10
Grandparents are truly a special piece of our families. If your children's grandparents are local, make sure to celebrate the day showing them just how important they are to your family.
If they aren't local, plan ahead and send a cute handmade card that has a hug inside! Simply tape together a few pieces of newspaper or use the white side of wrapping paper and outline your child with their arms outstretched. Let your kids color themselves in. Fold it up, put it in an envelope and send that hug to grandma! See more ideas on how to make Grandparents Day grand.

Good Neighbor Day

We all need more good neighbors. How can you be a good neighbor? Here are three ideas: Invite neighbors to gather to help an elderly neighbor who may be in need with yard work, start a neighborhood garden, organize a neighborhood garage sale and donate the profits to a local charity, or pool your tools for a tool-sharing co-op and have a neighborhood clean up party.
