World Breastfeeding Week
Aug. 1-7
World Breastfeeding Week, supported by UNICEF and the World Health Federation in more than 120 countries, was created with the goal to provide support for breastfeeding moms everywhere.
As a new mom in my early twenties, breast feeding was not discussed as openly as it is now. As I got older and then became a mother of twins in my mid-thirties, breast feeding was something that was taught, discussed, and offered. I often look back to my early days as a mom and want to make sure that if there are other young mothers out there now, that they know about breast feeding and how they can find support for themselves while recovering from childbirth and raising a newborn.
Iberia Medical Center offers breast feeding classes for new moms wanting support. You can also connect with WABA or World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action for information about how you can get involved, support and encourage mothers. Be sure to send this info to all the moms in your life!

National Middle Child Day

It can be tough for kids in the middle of a large family or group of siblings and sometimes they may struggle find their place. This is the day to celebrate the middle child in your life by doing something extra special just for them! Take them for an afterschool treat or a donut breakfast before school. It's important to plan time with each of your children to continue the bond as they grow. This is the day to make it all about them!
