Macaroni KID New Iberia Recommends

Our Top Picks Happening In and Around New Iberia This Week

By by Tracie Ysaguire, Publisher for Macaroni KID New Iberia September 9, 2022

How was your Labor Day holiday? For me, the biggest topic on Labor Day was the social media post about our local food pantry, St. Francis Diner, having to close this week due to a shortage of supplies and funding.

We have all been hit by the rising prices, but it is at times like these when we have to pull together as a community to support those who may have been most affected. Please be sure to find out how you can support or donate to the shelter this week so they can open their doors next week fully stocked.

We have another holiday to celebrate this upcoming weekend as well. Grandparents Day is this Sunday! Find out some ways to celebrate this special holiday with the grandparents in your life! You can also make plans to celebrate this weekend with them at one of our local festivals to enjoy a day of fun with the kids.

Starting September 15th through October 15th we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. New Iberia celebrates the Running of the Bulls at Bouligny Plaza on September 17th honoring part of our city's own Hispanic heritage. It's a pet-friendly event and a great opportunity to get out with friends and family. Whether you are participating in the event or just there to cheer on the runners, it is always a good time.

As we move into fall, many of us enjoy cooking a little more than normal because of the holidays. It seems we have the chance to try new things, or recreate favorites from our childhood with our children. One of my favorite things to make with my kids is homemade bread. I have not tried this Dutch oven bread recipe yet, but you can bet it will be on my to-do list this year.

We have so many new businesses coming up in New Iberia but there is one I have kept my eye on for a while. The Pie Bar on Main Street will officially open to the public this Friday, September 9th at 7 am. It is within perfect walking distance for us, or for anyone who loves strolling down Main Street for all the events. We definitely plan on checking out this new addition to the Cane River Pecan Company.

Now, on to our top recommendations for family fun this week:
