Macaroni KID New Iberia Recommends: 5 Things To Do This Week!

Get the scoop on events, resources, and tips in and around New Iberia this week!

By Tracie Ysaguire, Publisher for Macaroni KID New Iberia July 21, 2023

It feels like we still have so much summer in front of us, yet I know that it's not true! I've been working on the 2023 Back to School Guide since early late June and here we are rounding the corner into the last week of July. There is a Back to School giveaway for students in St. Mary Parish this weekend, so be sure to get those details on our calendar. And of course stay tuned for our Back to School Guide to be released some time toward the end of next week.

Since we still have some more July left to summer through, we are happy to release the 2023 Community Guide: Get the Whole Scoop. We may have a few more businesses to add to the list but we could not wait to showcase the business sponsors we have now so you can get the whole scoop on their business! Read more about these local businesses here and show them your support this summer and throughout the rest of the year.

With so many restaurants closing in the Acadiana area over the last couple of weeks, groups like Developing Lafayette and the Greater Iberia Chamber in New Iberia are working to bring more awareness to our locally-owned restaurants. The Greater Iberia Chamber is now holding a monthly supper club in a different local restaurant in New Iberia to highlight their dishes, mingle, network, and show support for our local economy. If you are looking for a night out to network and enjoy a good meal, get the details at Support Our Local Restaurants This Year in New Iberia. I hit two of my favorite spots this week in New Iberia for dinner and shared my favorite item of the night. If you go to Jane's or El Paso, I highly recommend trying those items I posted about on my Facebook page.

We also have a few great recipes to share with you this week. For a more healthy option for dinner, check out these amazing dinner recipes in 3 Delicious Salmon Recipes for Summer Dining. I love the grilled salmon packets!

This week we also have two great things you can do at home with the kids to take in a little more summer fun before they head back to school. Try making this yummy Summer Shine Pops for your cool treat at home. And we have a fun STEM craft for the kids to try that may help them get back into school mode. This DIY Lava Lamp: An Oil & Water Experiment Kids Can Do At Home is easy to make and can help the kids use their scientific minds. I promise more than likely have most of these items already around your home.

Now, on to our recommendations for your family fun this week:
