Halloween Treat Bags: An Easy Halloween Craft for Kids to Make at Home

Make these DIY Halloween-themed Treat Bags for Magical Fun this October

By Tracie Ysaguire, Publisher for Macaroni KID New Iberia October 7, 2024

We crafted with Alex Worstell on Good Day Acadiana and decided to have a Halloween party in studio! Stacey Dempsey of The Frosted Apron joined us on air to created some magic and we came up with a few ideas for your Halloween party. Both ideas would be the perfect addition to your Halloween block party, local trunk-or-treat, or fall festival at your child's school.

Stacey showed us how to make these adorable Pumpkin Scarecrow Cupcakes that the kids will absolutely love to make. They were cute and so delicious!

Alex and I crafted Halloween themed treat bags with simple items from around the house. The kids will enjoy being creative and will proudly hand out their creations to friends and neighbors.

Halloween Treat Bags

I got the idea from The Paper Pony and decided to put my own twist on it. Here are the supplies and instructions to make your own Halloween Treat Bags.

Supplies You'll Need:

  • Brown or white paper bags
  • Paint and brushes
  • Markers and crayons
  • Construction paper and/or other decorative paper
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue and/or Elmer's glue
  • Stickers, glitter, pom-poms, sequins, macaroni noodles, or other small items

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Decide what you want to create. We did everything from a haunted house to a bubblegum machine. You can draw directly on your bags, use stickers, or glue images to them. You can also add a company logo to your bags like Stacey did for The Frosted Apron.

If you are going to draw anything on the bag, its probably best to draw in pencil and then go back and trace over with a marker. You can also paint the front of the bags. I would just recommend to let everything dry before you go to the next step.

For even more pizazz on your treat bags, cut out different shapes from construction paper to create windows, balloons, faces, or other decorations to add to your bags. Use small craft items like pom-poms or sequins to make your bag stand out.

The kids can make a Halloween town of paper bags, draw their favorite cartoon character, make pumpkins, or create a simple fall image. There really is no wrong way to make these treat bags. Watch our clip from the segment below:
