Are there any other nervous nellys due to the hurricane sitting at our back door?
As we have been preparing for the impact of the impending storm since Monday, Hurricane Francine sits right off the coast of Louisiana as of 10:47 am today, Wednesday, September 11, 2024. The impact of the storm is expected to hit around the Morgan City area later this afternoon. I wanted to make sure to get this week's newsletter out as soon as I could since the possibility of power outages in our area is high after today.
I put my nervous energy into creating this guide for residents in Iberia, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion parishes listing all the important information families need in one place. This is a great article to share and save for future reference as we still have two months of hurricane season to get through. Several events have been canceled or postponed due to the incoming storm. I have removed the ones I have been notified of from our event calendar. Please keep in mind, depending on the impact of this storm in our area, more events could be cancelled after today.
If there are any community events, a call for donations or supplies, or other support for those most diversely affected by Hurricane Francine, I will also pull that info together as soon as I am able to share it with our Macaroni KID families.
I know most of the families in our area are cooking gumbo or throwing something on the grill to feed everyone as we shelter in place. Once we get on the other side of the storm, we have some great ideas for an easy meal in 5 Quick and Easy Rotisserie Chicken Recipes You Can Make Tonight. Let me know if you give one of them a try!
As always we love crafting! And crafting with your kids will make the perfect rainy day activity for families who are looking for something to creatively entertain their children. Be sure to check our website for some easy craft ideas using simple items from home. To celebrate the new Transformers One movie, Macaroni KID has some easy STEAM Projects: Fun DIY Crafts for Kids to make at home.
September is National Baby Safety Month, and Macaroni KID is partnering with the Window Covering Safety Council to help keep your home's windows safe for your little ones. We think this subject is so important that Macaroni KID is offering a chance to win $500 just by taking our quick 3-question window safety quiz. Check it out!
Sending prayers for all our families to make it through Hurricane Francine safely.
Now, on to our list of weekly recommendations for your free or low-cost family fun this week from New Iberia to Morgan City:
