Macaroni KID New Iberia Recommends: 5 Things To Do This Week!

Get the scoop on local resources and events happening this week from New Iberia to Morgan City

By Tracie Ysaguire, Publisher for Macaroni KID New Iberia October 18, 2024

We are happy to be back in your inbox this week with more local, free, and low-cost family events this week from New Iberia to Morgan City. Also, both of our fall festival guides have been updated with more events coming up this fall, so please make sure to check them out. Whether you are looking for a food and musical festival or a trunk-or-treat, we have them here for you:

If love a good scare and are curious about haunted attractions around the country, then we have the list for you! The Ultimate Guide to the Scariest Haunted Houses in Every U.S. State is filled with spine-tingling attractions with an interactive map. Be sure to check it out!

As a mother of teens, I know that some adults may feel that teenagers are too old to go trick-or-treating or attend the fall festivals for candy. Several fall festivals and other Halloween events will cap the age limit for those who can attend. And while I do think it is necessary to keep larger events grouped by age so the younger children can fully enjoy them, I also think it is important that our teenagers have a fun, safe environment to enjoy the celebrations as well during this time of year. Macaroni KID National has a poll on their social pages to hear what our parents think: Are Kids Ever Too Old for Trick-or-Treating? The Halloween Age Debate. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

With that being said, I decided to create a separate list of events happening this month for families with teenagers to enjoy. We are making plans to attend several. Get the details on local attractions and events in 10 Spooky Fun Attractions to Enjoy with Your Teens this Halloween.

As you know I talked openly about the experience of not being able to contact my brother for several days in the aftermath of the flooding in North Carolina. I have created an article that lists a few events and organizations around Acadiana that offer a way for families here to help people and families in Asheville recover. I am sure over the holiday months as well as into the new year, this list will grow. Please share this with others and keep your hearts open to continued prayer and support for those affected.

October is also recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. As Publishers for our blogs, we are always on the lookout for family events and resources that we can share. While this is a tough subject, it does give some insight and resources for families who may need it. In Pregnancy and Infant Loss: 3 Stories of Grief, Support, and Strength read about what three moms have learned on their journey through pregnancy and infant loss.

We also brought out one of our favorite recipes from the vault this week thanks to Stacey Dempsey of The Frosted Apron. We made these last year on Good Day Acadiana and they were so easy to do. Find out how to Create Magic with Pumpkin Scarecrow Cupcakes for your Halloween party. The kids will love it!

Now, on to more of our weekly recommendations for your free or low-cost family fun this week from New Iberia to Morgan City:
