Macaroni KID New Iberia Recommends: 5 Things To Do This Week!

Get the scoop on local resources and events happening this week from New Iberia to Morgan City

By Tracie Ysaguire, Publisher for Macaroni KID New Iberia February 2, 2024

Hello February! I honestly did not think January was ever going to end. It seemed to be three months rolled into one.

New Iberia enjoyed the Bayou Mardi Gras Association Mardi Gras parade last weekend that rolled through downtown Main Street on Sunday afternoon. I think I like the parade better during the day! The community came out and celebrated, and it was beautiful. If you are looking for more carnival events happening this month, we have updated the 2024 Mardi Gras Guide so be sure to check for the new events listed in Iberia, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion parishes.

Although we are in full swing celebrating Mardi Gras this month, we have several other holidays and occasions happening this month. Get the details in 9 Holidays and Events To Celebrate this February with Your Kids.

The Greater Iberia Chamber is back with the Supper Club meet-ups for 2024 at local restaurants in Iberia Parish. These events offer a great opportunity to support one of our local businesses, network with other members of our community, and enjoy a meal. Read about the upcoming event happening this month: Support Our Local Restaurants in Iberia Parish in 2024. You do not have to be a chamber member to attend.

Black History Month officially begins today and we have a GREAT article to share with you this week. I am a total music geek and one of my favorite genres of music is R&B. Growing up in New Orleans, I attended many music festivals and it was not uncommon to have gospel music flowing into our windows on Sunday mornings from the local churches in the area. One of my fondest memories with my mom was setting aside Saturday mornings to clean up the house and blare Marvin Gaye, Prince, or Earth Wind & Fire as we worked together cleaning. I was excited to read the article from one of our publishers submitted this week, The Soulful Rhythms of Black History: A Journey Through Black Music. I know you'll love it!

February also brings the Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year on the 10th of the month and we have a few craft ideas you can do to celebrate with the kids. Check out 3 Kid-Friendly Lunar New Year Crafts to Celebrate the Year of the Dragon for fun crafting at home.

Now, on to our top recommendations for your family this week:
