I hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July celebrations! We enjoyed a day of swimming and lots of snacking to welcome the dog days of summer that have arrived in New Iberia, with July now officially underway. Tomorrow, July 7th, is National Macaroni Day, and you know I love crafting with macaroni noodles. If you are looking for a few craft ideas that are easy and inexpensive, find out how you can make these fun crafts at home with the kids and the pasta of your choice.
Our calendar continues to grow this July with several free summer day camps that are being offered for kids in Abbeville, Franklin, and St. Martinville. Make sure to check the event calendar regularly so you can get your kids registered for some fun summer activities before the spots fill up. Many of the classes are limited in space and are first come, first served.
If you are in St. Mary Parish, then be sure to read all about the free summer family movie nights happening every Thursday this July, sponsored by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and other community businesses. The first one was tonight at the Amelia Recreation Center, but there are still three events on the calendar. It will be a fun night with snacks and community outreach at each of these events.
For those in New Iberia, have you heard about Roxy the Rock Snake and her now twin, which is now growing in City Park? What one local New Iberia family started as a way to keep the kids entertained this summer is now growing with interest in our community. Grab a rock, get creative, and head over to City Park in New Iberia to add your creation to Roxy the Rock Snake. We will be adding our rocks to the collection this weekend.
Many families will be traveling this month as summer vacation begins to wind down in July. Check out our article this week on 12 Essential Travel Tips From a Pro for some great tips and recommendations for your family before you head out this summer. And if you are looking for a delicious, mouthwatering recipe to bring your barbeque sauce up a notch, our recipe this week is a must-try. The sloppier the sauce, the better, I say!
We are still in the middle of our investigative series with Louisiana Spirits this summer and can not wait to hit the hot spots around town this July with the team. Part four of our summer series New Iberia Haunts will be released this weekend. Stay tuned to find out what happened at the class and investigation at The Sliman and Bayou Teche Museum in New Iberia on June 17, 2023. It was a great night with over 30 participants and I got to use some cool new tools with the team.
I am excited to be investigating next weekend at the Spirits of Main Street event happening in downtown New Iberia. This class is full, but the team is adding more events and locations to be investigated around New Iberia, Lafayette, and Abbeville. Summer is heating up in Franklin with several day classes that will be presented this July by the City of Franklin. An Introduction to Acrylics with Caroline Simoneaux will begin Monday, July 10 and run through Thursday, July 13. Classes are free, including all supplies, and will be broken down by age groups. There is a $15.00 registration fee and each class is limited to 10 participants.
